Colorado NADA Acudetox Training

Dates/Times: May 1-3rd, 9am-5pm

Location: Lafayette, CO (Address to be announced prior to training)

Trainer: Jessica Eden LCSW, LAC (Licensed Addictions Counselor)

Step 1: Create your NADA profile & pay for your annual membership ($100).

Step 2: Purchase NADA Training on NADA website ($600). Training fee includes training, online manual, and acudetox supply kit. You’ll receive an email after registering with the location address and instructions for self-study/preparation materials.

Step 3: Complete in-person training and document 40 supervised treatments. To receive your NADA certificate, you must submit a record of 40 supervised treatments within 90 days of completing the course.

Instructional Delivery

This is an in-person training. Instructional methods include but are not limited to self-study, demonstration, small group work, written reflection, group discussion, and practicum. Any absences must have prior clearance from the instructor.

Student Responsibilities

Students with disabilities should notify the trainer prior to registration to discuss appropriate accommodations (the training location is wheelchair/handicap accessible). Students MUST attend all sessions and complete all assignments. Students must demonstrate competency to be eligible to receive a certificate as a NADA Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist (ADS).

Evaluation will be via class participation, assignment completion, and clinical observation & assessment of competence.

Training Syllabus/Outline

Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, trainees will be able to:

• Provide NADA treatments with accurate point location, proper technique, and universal precautions.
• Modify treatments (fewer points, beads) and manage adverse situations safely.
• Incorporate supportive practices such as Seeds & Beads, and Sleepmix Tea.
• Create and maintain a safe and conducive communal treatment space.
• Communicate with sensitivity, compassion, and respect, ensuring informed consent.
• Demonstrate understanding of NADA history, research, outcomes, and the spirit of the protocol.
• Provide clear, HIPAA-compliant treatment documentation.
• Effectively explain the uses and limitations of NADA to clients, professionals, and the public.
• Demonstrate awareness of NADA Code of Ethics, scope of practice, and certification requirements.
• Integrate NADA Acudetox safely and appropriately in their own practice and within the context of behavioral and community health.
• Utilize trauma-informed approaches and recognize the importance of ADS self-care and burnout prevention.

Preparatory Reading & Self-Study
NADA history, research outcomes, and training manual (videos and readings provided in pre-email).

Day 1: Foundations of NADA

Morning

• Introductions, course overview, personal intentions for learning, and receiving NADA treatment from the trainer.
• Introduction to NADA protocol and the Spirit of NADA.
• The five points and point locations. Seeds & Beads, and Sleepmix Tea as supportive elements.

Afternoon

• Needling technique, handling, disposal, CNT (clean needle technique).
• Practice on silicon ears and peer practice. Student needling practice with feedback.
• Homework as assigned.

Day 2: Practice of NADA

Morning

• HIPAA, treatment records, informed consent, NADA Code of Ethics.
• Communal treatment approach and NADA as adjunct to behavioral & community health settings.
• Trauma-informed care, holding space, and creating group coherence. Discussion on ADS self-care, burnout, and compassion fatigue.

Afternoon

• NADA session practice – small group work planning, leading and closing a group.
• Managing complications, special populations, and safety.
• Pathways to becoming a certified ADS, legal considerations, scope of practice.
• Homework as assigned.

Day 3: Integration of NADA

Morning

• Review point location and needling techniques. Preparing for first volunteers or group.

Morning & Afternoon

• Volunteer NADA Sessions
  Prior to training, students are provided a flyer to share with friends, family, and others to invite them to NADA practice sessions. As an alternative, students may identify friends or family at home or in their community as volunteers, or set up a group/circle of their own to submit for supervision hours. All students are still required to attend this full day of training.

Afternoon/Closing

• Integration & reflection: Discuss experiences from the public session.
• Final review of legal statutes, certification requirements, and ethical considerations.

Cancellation policy:

There are no refunds for cancellation, a withdrawal from the training or failure to complete coursework and certification within the allotted time. Trainer reserves the right to cancel the training with fewer than 5 participants.

Transfer policy:

Enrolled students may be able to transfer to a future training session, subject to availability and approval of this trainer. Transfer fees may apply. In the case of cancellation of training by trainer due to low attendance, no transfer fees. In the event of a documented medical emergency that prevents a student from attending a training, a transfer may be considered on a case by case basis.
