POLICY

The National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) protocol is available to all patients wishing to incorporate acupuncture as an adjunct to his/her treatment at Fairbanks.

PURPOSE

The NADA protocol is not intended to replace other methods or modalities of traditional treatment offered at Fairbanks.  Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in alleviating the severity of withdrawal symptoms associated with opiate, cocaine, and alcohol abuse. Acupuncture participants have reported a reduction in cramps, headaches and discomfort in other body parts following the acupuncture procedure.  There have been reports of a reduction in the intense depression, anxiety and drug craving experienced during withdrawal.  Acupuncture is also provided as a treatment for drug craving and symptoms which may occur after withdrawal.  Many substance abusers experience intense craving, anxiety, mood swings and insomnia for weeks or months after cession of chemical use.  These prolonged withdrawal symptoms have also been found to be effectively relieved by acupuncture.
