Three day in person class designed to meet the training requriements of the NADA Organization and the State of West Virginia.
In class dates are June 12/13/14. Attendence is required at all sessions. All students MUST contact the trainers before registering in the course.
Please verify that you can practice the protocol legally in your state before registering for the course. There will be some homestudy activites
required to meet all training requirements.

NADA Training Syllabus
Learning Objectives
*By the end of this course, students will be able to
provide NADA treatments with good point location and technique while using clean needle technique and universal precautions as appropriate.
*modify treatments (fewer points, beads) and manage adverse clinical situations should
they occur, understand communal treatment approach, setup of treatment space and maintenance of a safe environment for clients.
*demonstrate communication skills that show sensitivity, compassion and respect for
clients and an understanding of informed consent
*build greater understanding of the history of addiction treatment, history of the NADA
protocol, research/outcomes and NADA’s role as adjunct treatment.
provide clear treatment documentation that conform to HIPAA.
*communicate both the uses and limitations of NADA treatment to clients, other
professionals and the general public.
*demonstrate understanding of NADA Code of Ethics, scope of practice of NADA within
their state and NADA certification requirements.
*Be conversant with both Western and Eastern theories of addiction and the psycho-
spiritual nature of recovery
Goal
The goal of this NADA training is to train West Virginia professionals already working with at risk populations to provide NADA acudetox treatments.
Instructional delivery strategy
This is an in-person training. Instructional methods include but are not limited to preparatory reading, demonstration, small group work, written reflection, group discussion and practicum.
Student responsibilities
Students are required to complete all assignments and attend all sessions. Any absences must have prior clearance from instructor.
Students with disabilities should notify trainer prior to training to discuss appropriate
accommodations.
Assessment
Evaluation will be via class participation, assignment completion and clinical observation and assessment of competence.

Preparatory work- reading and video resources re NADA history provided by instructor
Thursday June 12
8:30 to 10am- Introductions, course overview, students receive NADA treatment from
instructors
10:15 to 12:30pm- Introduction to NADA protocol including ear anatomy, point location and points
1:30 to 2:30pm- Needling technique, handling and disposal, CNT, and needling practice (silicon ears)
2:45 to 4:30pm- review NADA Code of Ethics, communication skills, informed consent, HIPAA,
forms and needling practice (students)
Homework- ear needling practice with silicon ears
Friday June 13
9 to 10am-point location review and needling practice (students)
10:15 to 12:30pm- Wu xing, five elements, NADA within the context of acupuncture and energy
medicine, East Asian medicine concepts re addiction
1:30 to 3pm- Communal treatment- benefits, setting up, maintenance, client management
issues and strategies,special populations and accessibility
3:30 to 5pm- NADA session (public) followed by student Q&A/discussion
Homework- ear needling practice, writing assignment on ‘how I will use NADA in my current capacity/work
Saturday June 14
9 to 10am- review of point location and needling practice, advanced concepts of NADA five points
10:15 to 12:30pm- NADA history/legislation/legalities re West Virginia, uses of NADA within the context of behavioral and community health, small group work re NADA ‘elevator speech’
1:30 to 3pm- NADA session (public), student Q&A and discussion
3:30 to 5pm- ADS self-care, steps to certification, insurance, supplies and resources, questions
