Location: Loudoun Serenity House Recovery Community Center 29 N King St, Leesburg, VA 20176

Timing: Saturday Nov. 22 9am to 5pm, Sunday Nov. 23 9am to 5pm, Sunday Dec.7 9am to 5pm with optional extra clinic Dec.6 1 to 4pm

Step 1: Contact Tara @ C|740-590-0290 before registering.

Step 2: Create your NADA profile and pay for membership.

Step 3: Purchase NADA training on NADA website. Training fee includes training, manual and supplies.

Step 4: Complete in-person training and document 40 supervised treatments. To receive your NADA certificate, you must submit a record of 40 supervised treatments within 90 days of completing the course.

NADA Training Syllabus

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • provide NADA treatments with good point location and technique while using clean needle technique and universal precautions as appropriate.
  • modify treatments (fewer points, beads) and manage adverse clinical situations should they occur.
  • understand communal treatment approach, setup of treatment space and maintenance of a safe environment for clients.
  • demonstrate communication skills that show sensitivity, compassion and respect for clients and an understanding of informed consent.
  • build greater understanding of the history of addiction treatment, history of the NADA protocol, research/outcomes and NADA’s role as adjunct treatment.
  • provide clear treatment documentation that conform to HIPAA.
  • communicate both the uses and limitations of NADA treatment to clients, other professionals and the general public.
  • demonstrate understanding of NADA Code of Ethics, scope of practice of NADA within their state and NADA certification requirements.
  • Be conversant with both Western and Eastern theories of addiction and the psycho-spiritual nature of recovery.

Goal

The goal of this NADA training is to train Virginia and West Virginia professionals already working with at risk populations to provide NADA acudetox treatments.

Instructional delivery strategy

This is an in-person training. Instructional methods include but are not limited to preparatory reading, demonstration, small group work, written reflection, group discussion and practicum.

Student responsibilities

Students are required to complete all assignments and attend all sessions. Any absences must have prior clearance from instructor.

Students with disabilities should notify trainer prior to training to discuss appropriate accommodations.

Assessment

Evaluation will be via class participation, assignment completion and clinical observation and assessment of competence.

Course Outline

Preparatory work- reading and video resources re NADA history provided by trainer

Saturday Nov. 22

9 to 10am- Introductions, course overview, students receive NADA treatment from trainer

10:15 to 12:30pm- Introduction to NADA protocol including ear anatomy, point location and points

1:30 to 3:45pm- Needling technique, handling and disposal, CNT and needling practice (silicon ears)

4:15 to 5pm- needling practice (students)

Homework- ear needling practice with silicon ears

Sunday, Nov. 22

9 to 10:30am- Communication skills, informed consent and consent forms, treatment records, HIPAA, NADA code of ethics

10:30am to 12pm- Communal treatment- benefits, setting up, maintenance, small group work re NADA ‘elevator speech’, student needling practice

1 to 2:30pm- NADA session (public)

2:30 to 5pm- student Q&A from clinical practice, ADS self care, ‘elevator speech’, talking about/advertising NADA, pathway to becoming an ADS re legalities and requirements.

Homework- Prepare 2 versions (clients and other professionals) of 30 second ‘elevator speech’ re what is NADA

Optional extra clinical session Saturday Dec. 6

1pm to 3pm- NADA session (public)

3 to 4pm- Q & A

Sunday Dec. 7

9 to 10:30am: review of point location and needling practice (students), Wu xing, five elements and advanced concepts of NADA five points, East Asian medicine concepts re addiction/empty fire

10:15am to 12:30pm: client management issues and strategies, safety- external, internal and OSHA, NADA as adjunct to other therapies

1:30pm to 3pm: NADA session (public)

3pm to 5pm: client management issues and strategies, special populations and accessibility, uses of NADA within the context of behavioral and community health, next steps to completing 40 treatments

Cancellation policy:

There are no refunds for cancellation, a withdrawal from the training or failure to complete coursework. The trainer reserves the right to cancel the training if there are fewer than five people registered.

Transfer policy:

Enrolled students may be able to transfer to a future training session, subject to availability and approval of this trainer. Transfer fees may apply. In the case of cancellation of training by trainer due to low attendance, no transfer fees. In the event of a documented medical emergency that prevents a student from attending a training, a transfer may be considered on a case by case basis.
