Four day in person class designed to meet the training requriements of the NADA Organization and the State of West Virginia.

In class dates are May 2/3 and June 13/14.  Attendence is required at all sessions.  All stsudent MUST contact the trainers before registering in the course.

Please verify that you can practice the protocol legally in your state before registering for the course. There will be some homestudy activites

required to meet all training requirements.

NADA Training Syllabus
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to
provide NADA treatments with good point location and technique while using clean needle
technique and universal precautions as appropriate.
modify treatments (fewer points, beads) and manage adverse clinical situations should
they occur.
understand communal treatment approach, setup of treatment space and maintenance of
a safe environment for clients.
demonstrate communication skills that show sensitivity, compassion and respect for
clients and an understanding of informed consent
build greater understanding of the history of addiction treatment, history of the NADA
protocol, research/outcomes and NADA’s role as adjunct treatment.
provide clear treatment documentation that conform to HIPAA.
communicate both the uses and limitations of NADA treatment to clients, other
professionals and the general public.
demonstrate understanding of NADA Code of Ethics, scope of practice of NADA within
their state and NADA certification requirements.

Be conversant with both Western and Eastern theories of addiction and the psycho-
spiritual nature of recovery

Goal
The goal of this NADA training is to train West Virginia professionals already working with at risk
populations to provide NADA acudetox treatments.
Instructional delivery strategy
This is an in-person training. Instructional methods include but are not limited to preparatory reading,
demonstration, small group work, written reflection, group discussion and practicum.
Student responsibilities
Students are required to complete all assignments and attend all sessions. Any absences must have prior
clearance from instructor.
Students with disabilities should notify trainer prior to training to discuss appropriate
accommodations.
Assessment
Evaluation will be via class participation, assignment completion and clinical observation and
assessment of competence.

Course Outline
First Session
Preparatory work- reading and video resources re NADA history provided by instructor
Friday May 2
8:30 to 10am- Introductions, course overview, students receive NADA treatment from
instructors

10:15 to 12:30pm- Introduction to NADA protocol including ear anatomy, point location and
points
1:30 to 3:45pm- Needling technique, handling and disposal, CNT and needling practice (silicon
ears)
4:15 to 6pm- Communication skills, informed consent and needling practice (students)
Homework- ear needling practice with silicon ears
Saturday, May 3
8:30 to 10am-point location review and needling practice (students), consent forms, treatment
records, HIPAA
10:15 to 12:30pm- review and discuss NADA Code of Ethics
1:30 to 3:45pm- Communal treatment- benefits, setting up, maintenance, client management
issues and strategies,special populations and accesibility
4:15 to 6pm- NADA session (public) followed by student Q&A/discussion
Homework- ear needling practice, writing assignment on ‘how I will use NADA in my current
capacity/work’
Second session
Preparatory work- reading/video resources on addiction
Friday June 13
8:30 to 10am- review of point location and needling practice (split group into
clients/practitioners), East Asian medicine concepts re addiction
10:15 to 12:30pm- Student needling practice (switch roles), Wu xing, five elements and
advanced concepts of NADA five points
1:30 to 3:45pm- NADA session (public), student Q&A and discussion
4:15 to 6pm- pathway to becoming an ADS- completing requirements, certification, insurance.
Homework- Prepare 2 versions (clients and other professionals) of 30 second ‘elevator speech’
re what is NADA
Saturday June 14
8:30 to 10am- NADA within the context of acupuncture and energy medicine, ADS self-care,
needling practice
10:15 to 12:30pm- NADA history/legislation/legalities re West Virginia, uses of NADA within the
context of behavioral and community health, small group work re NADA ‘elevator speech’
1:30 to 3:45pm- NADA session (public) followed by student Q&A, discussion
4:15 to 6pm- Steps to certification, review of process, additional treatment supervision, supplies
and resources
